Women's Blues Season Review
Having been relegated from the Midlands 1A league last year, the Blues had high hopes for this season. They got off to a shaky start with a draw away at UEA, but then dominated the league until the end of term with 4 wins out of 5 in league matches. They also made strong progress in the cup, a 22-0 win at Nottingham Trent being a standout result on the way to the quarter finals. Brookes Varsity provided the Blues’ toughest game yet against a very strong Brookes team. Despite going 1-0 down after a poor start to the game, the Blues fought back to scrape a 3-2 victory which showed off all their hard work so far.
The Blues’ first 2 games back after the break were against their main rivals for the league title, Warwick and Lincoln. Having lost to Warwick in a closely fought match before Christmas, the squad knew that they had to win all remaining league matches to stay top of the table. Two 2-0 wins followed, and then a further run of 4 wins saw the Blues take the league title and reach the cup final. The final saw the squad meet close rivals Brookes again and despite an excellent start with the Blues going 5-1 up, Brookes fought back to clinch the match 6-5 after a dominant 30 minute spell of play. This should not take away from an excellent season in which the squad have won 13 out of 16 matches played.
