Men's Blues reach Semi-Final stage in China
The Blues have just returned from a hugely successful tournament at the World Elite University Football Tournament in Beijing. Having progressed to the semi-finals with 13 goals scored and 0 conceded, the Blues came up against a very strong University of British Columbia side who ultimately won 2-0 in the searing Chinese heat. This set up a repeat of last year’s 3rd & 4th play-off match against bitter rivals Cambridge University. With the score tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the Blues won a remarkable penalty shootout 10-9 with goalkeeper Sean Gleeson scoring the winner to clinch 3rd place in the tournament. This was the Blues’ fifth win against Cambridge in the past six matches.
In between the football were amazing opportunities to see the great sites of Beijing and to meet other footballers from all over the world. We thank WEUFT for organising this great tournament and cannot wait for the next one.
